The Teacher Who Shouted I Love You is a Must Read
The Teacher Who Shouted “I love You” is a new children’s book written to tell an inspiring story. The story lets teachers and students know that it is okay to say “I love you” when you care about someone. These words are not just for family or close friends. I feel love for my students all year and love them like my own children. We spend a LOT of time with our students in elementary school. Some students show lots of love and some don’t know how to show love. This story lets them know that it’s okay to express LOVE.
The Story Behind the Book
It was near the end of the school year and we were writing postcards. I wrote “I love you” in my closing and I had a student respond as though she hadn’t heard those words. When I told her that I loved her too, she was mortified and thought those words were not to be shared. I got the impression that she didn’t hear them often. She doesn’t have an easy life, moving around lot with her dad and bothers.
After realizing that she was either uncomfortable with the words or she didn’t know how much I loved her, I thought it was important for all the kids to know how much I loved them too. I wondered how many didn’t hear those words enough. I literally told each student that I loved them while we were in class. They were giggling and smiling. On the way out of school, I told them again that I loved them, each individual child heard it more than once that day. I did shout it from the front door and would have shouted it from the rooftop if I could have too!
The student who was so embarrassed, came back the next day and had written a song that she sang to the whole class. It was about loving her teacher. I have a video of that moment that I get to cherish and I will always hold the memories in my heart. When you work at such a special school that is high in poverty, the stories tug at your heartstrings every day.
After the Story Came Out
The story was dedicated to the student who inspired the story. She has felt like a celebrity at school among the students and staff. I was able to read the story to the class that lived the story and gave the special signed copy to the dedicated student. Since, donors have made it possible for me to gift all the students that were in my class a copy of the book PLUS writing supplies to go with it. Amazing and generous community.
Perfect Heartfelt Book for New Teachers
Don’t be afraid to say I Love You at school. I don’t believe these words are just for family and friends. I certainly feel love for my students, so why not tell them? This story highlights the importance of telling others that we love them and that it’s okay for teachers to tell students that we love them. It also lets students know that they can reciprocate and say “I love you” back. If you are not comfortable with those words, find other words to show students you care. You never know if they may need to hear more caring and loving words. We are like family in school.

How did I publish a book?
- The story stayed fresh in my mind until summer approached. After writing and editing the story, I wrote and formatted the manuscript using Canva.
- After having a manuscript, I found an amazing illustrator on Fiver. It was an investment that I was willing to spend to achieve publishing my first children’s book. There are many price options for illustrations online or you can self illustrate you book. You can also look for a local artist…maybe even a student.
- After receiving the illustrations, I formatted the covers using a template and inside of the book using Canva.
- Kindle Create was used to format the digital e book.
- ISBN numbers were purchased for the paperback and hardcover versions of the book. This allows the book to be sold outside of Amazon. You can get a free ISBN through Amazon, but it may only be sold on their platform.
- After adding ISBN numbers on the cover, I was able to upload the cover and manuscript to Kindle Direct Publishing. It is free to publish because books are printed on demand so as it is orders, then it prints and ships. This took a couple times, but it’s a good feeling when it gets approved.
- As the author, a royalty is received for each copy sold. After the cost of printing and shipping, you basically split the profit with Amazon. Royalties are not paid immediately as Amazon typically takes a couple months to pay out.
- Advertising is available within the Amazon platform to help in promoting your newly published book.
- An Author Page can also be created to get started in the author world.
If you are thinking about writing and publishing a book, don’t hesitate. It is completely within your reach. I love my book!
