Have you been looking for online writing activities for kids? Kids LOVE Night Zookeeper and it actually improves writing! My classroom was proof of it because all of my students used it, loved it and showed improvement in their writing skills.
But it’s perfect for PARENTS too! You can introduce Night Zookeeper at home for FREE! Your child will thank you.
Night Zookeeper is also a great tool to get your kids writing before going back to school. Help them get ready in style with a fun learning game focusing just on writing!
An online writing program that kids LOVE
Night Zookeeper is an impressive online writing platform designed just for kids. It is perfect for those kids who say they don’t like to write. They will now! I wish this program would have been around when my kids were young. It really doesn’t feel like learning, kids feel like they are playing and creating.
Kids are able to design and name their own characters for the stories they will be writing. Drawing tools are available so they can make any colorful character they choose. As the writing of the story progresses, kids will see their drawn character in the story they write. During Chrome Book time, Night Zookeeper was a program that the students asked for because they WANTED to write. An online writing activity that kids actually LOVE.
How this online writing program improves writing skills
Kids feel like they are in a video game, but they are taking steps to improve writing in many ways. Night Zookeeper focuses on spelling, grammar and punctuation. If they forget, the Night Zookeeper reminds them to add a capital letter or end mark. They are prompted to fix mistakes before moving on.
The program slowly introduces components of the story through a series of questions asked by the Night Zookeeper. Kids don’t realize they have written a whole story until it is pulled together in the end with a picture of their character. Kids have a feeling of pride when they see their completed story.
In addition, Night Zookeeper provides many lessons in different genres. Looking for a fantasy story? It’s there! Looking for a lesson on persuasive writing? It’s there! You are able to let students choose or you can assign lessons or a series of lessons. Most of all, the program incorporates games, collaborative activities and challenges that continue to engage kids so they don’t get bored. They want to come back and keep creating over and over.
Ways to incorporate online writing into a daily schedule
Kids need opportunities to write in various ways. They will always need pencil to paper writing activities, but they also NEED technology based writing. As my own kids went through high school, I asked my last kid to graduate, how many papers did you write with a pencil? His answer was zero. He did write outlines prior to typing a paper, but all drafting, editing and publishing was completed using a computer based program. Therefore, it is important for kids to learn both styles of writing, pencil to paper and typing.
During Chrome Book time, Night Zookeeper was a program that the students asked for because they WANTED to write. An online writing activity that kids actually LOVE. They even chose this program during indoor rainy day recess! You can set aside small amounts of time each day or several times per week.
Why not start young? Kids will gain a love for writing at a young age and improve typing skills too! As kids are improving writing skills, they are also expanding their creative thinking skills. They may be assigned lessons within a topic, but kids don’t feel that it is an assignment at all. They follow the path through creativity and productivity. Parents and teachers get the writing in a nice, neat multi-paragraph page along with a picture of the character designed by the child.
The writing can be printed or displayed digitally for the student to share. Don’t skip the opportunity for kids to show off their work. Let them explain the character and read what they have written. Some kids are shy to share, but most thrive on the opportunity to share their writing with others, a step that is often missed. Don’t let time run out for sharing even if you have to come back to it the next day.
Here are some pictures of kids using Night Zookeeper in my classroom. You can get a feel for the different components within the online writing platform. It really does have a video game type feel to it. Night Zookeeper appealed to all of my kids including those that did not like video games and those that did not like writing. As you can see, these students are engaged as well as the 20 other students around the room.
Night Zookeeper is SO affordable
Online writing activities for kids are difficult to find so when I found Night Zookeeper, I was sure it would be expensive, but I was wrong. You can click on the photo above to get a FREE 7-Day trial so you have nothing to lose. After the trial, the program is only $12.99 per month and even less if you pay $118.99 for the whole year. But, remember, you can try it for FREE for 7 days so why not?
Educators and Parents can get 50% off of an annual subscription by clicking HERE! It is worth every penny spent to provide a gift of writing to children. As a teacher, I wrote a grant to pay for an annual subscription for 25 students and am ready to go for the upcoming school year. I discovered it late last year so I can’t wait to use it in my classroom all year long.
See what your kids think
Try it out for free and see what your kids are saying, but most of all, what they are doing! My guess…they will be proud to show you what they create…and remember, they are WRITING! Don’t let this inspiring writing opportunity for kids slip by.
